Tanzania Private and Group Safaris

Tanzania Private and Group Safaris

TANZANIA PRIVATE SAFARI: Maybe it is your interest to experience the historical wildlife event of Wildebeest Migration, or you want to photograph Elephants at sunrise. Maybe your favorite animal is buffalo or Zebra, or you just can’t wait to see the rare black Rhino in its natural habitat. Maybe you are more interested in viewing different species of birds. It may sound rather obvious, but one thing we’ve found from our many years of experience in this industry is that different people are all interested in different things.

This of course is a simple fact of life, and it doesn’t become a problem until these different interests start competing with one another on a group safari.

One person might be set on photographing love birds perched demurely on a branch in the perfect light, while another person is anxious to follow that pride of lionesses getting ready to hunt. One person might want to leave the lodge before sunrise to see animals in their more active states, while another party wants to enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge. The unfortunate result of trying to force different priorities into the same agenda is often disappointment by one or more parties. With Tanzania private safari, the risk of compromising your once-in-a-lifetime-trip to accommodate the once-in-a-lifetime-trip planned by somebody else is effectively eliminated.

How to get to Tanzania?

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) is situated 50km/31mi east of Arusha, the gateway of Tanzania’s popular Northern safari circuit. The drive from the airport to Arusha takes about 1½ hours*.

Tanzania’s main airport is Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), located 13km/8mi southwest of Dar es Salaam. This is the entry point for visitors to the southern parks.

From Arusha or Dar es Salaam, you can fly or drive between reserves. Some domestic flights out of Arusha will leave from Kilimanjaro International Airport, while others leave from the much smaller Arusha Airport (ARK) located 8km/5mi west of town. However you choose to travel, in most cases, your local tour operator will pick you up from the airport and arrange all further transportation as part of your safari package.

We operate two different styles of group safaris in Tanzania – those that are tailored to a specific private group and a number of set-date ‘group’ departures.

The majority of our set-date group departures are based around Tanzania’s popular Northern Circuit. We offer a whole range of set-date departures that cover the full range of budgets available throughout the region, whether that be a luxury safari or a more budget-focused adventure. The majority of these trips start in Arusha and take in all the northern parks before returning to Arusha or flying out of the Serengeti. They are all hugely successful itineraries that get superb reports from travellers.

The private tailored trips that we offer cover the whole country. Whether you choose to travel to the popular northern parks and the famous attractions such as the Serengeti or Ngorongoro, or opt to venture out to the more remote parks found in Tanzania’s far west or south, there is something for groups of all sizes. For more information on the different areas visit our safari parks page.

When we are looking at designing trips for groups, it becomes very important to get the trip just right. If at all possible, we recommend coming into our offices so that we can talk through all the options available. Alternatively, depending on the group size, we are happy to meet with you at a convenient place for the group – sitting down and going through everyone’s requirements is the best way to get the most out of a group trip to Tanzania.

There are a number of hotels, lodges and beach resorts that we really recommend for group trips as we consider them to be the best places for groups to take over privately. Our absolute favourites are Kiba Point in Nyerere (formerly Selous), Jongomero in Ruaha, and Alex Walker’s Serian in the Serengeti.

Tanzania Group-joining safaris have highly  become popular now days. It is a type of safari wherein a traveler or group of travelers join other like-minded adventurers on a safari. This is an ideal way to cut down on costs as travelers in the group share the expenses on fuel, guides, etc. and at the same time share the experience with new friends. Besides, the wild animals couldn’t possibly care about how much you paid for your safari, right? So whether you are on a private tour or on a group-joining tour, the animals will do their thing — cheetahs will run about in amazing speed, hyenas will chase after zebras and wildebeests, lions will pry over their stalked prey, giraffes will browse the trees, chimpanzees will swing amongst tree branches and Nile crocodiles will attack hooves without reservation! So basically, a group-joining safari is perfect for you!!

Our tours are located in the desired destination, the Northern Circuit, which can be visited all year round. To ensure that the wildebeest migration is completely experienced, it is recommended that you go during the peak visiting season which occurs during the dry months from June to October.

The recurring migration of wildebeest within the Serengeti and Maasai Mara/Kenya is exclusive to this area. The Wildebeest are constantly in search of the finest grazing areas and fresh water. Experts make inferences on the route that the herd follows but migration is largely determined by the rainfall. The journey begins in April when the heard starts to migrate to the North. In September they must face the most hazardous part of their journey – crossing the Mara River. In October they move towards the south and return in time for the light rain season from November to December. They settle in the south from the beginning of the year until March. This is the period when calves are born.

Both Kenya and Tanzania are good safari destinations for wildlife viewing in Africa. But there’s no place like Tanzania – the sheer abundance of wildlife is unparalleled. Besides, Tanzania is home to the Serengeti National Park’s wildebeest migration, the fascinating topographical wonder of the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar’s tropical beaches.
