The Region has one game reserve namely Maswa which covers an area of 2,880 squares kilometre along the Serengeti National Park borders in Bariadi district and Makao Wildlife Management Area covering 1,330 sq. Km in Meatu district making a total area of 4,210 squares kilometre.

The reserve hosts a wide variety of wildlife such as hippo, lion, zebra, buffalo, wild dog, bushbuck, impala, giraffe and baboon. Availability of such game reserves in Simiyu region already is attracting a fairly good number of tourists to enjoy the diversity of wildlife and plants. Climate Simiyu

The region Simiyu has a tropical savanna climate. It is warm every month with both a wet and dry season. The average annual temperature for Simiyu is 50° degrees and there is about 395 inch of rain in a year. It is dry for 119 days a year with an average humidity of 71% and an UV-index of 6.

Best time to visit Simiyu

For visiting Simiyu, the best time to visit is January and February and May through October. In this period you have a warm temperature and little precipitation. The highest average temperature in the Simiyu region is 81°F in February and the lowest is 77°F in December.

For outdoor enthusiasts looking for adventure amidst nature’s bounty; bird watching safaris along Mara River banks offer sightings of over 500 species including flamingos while game drives through Serengeti National Park present opportunities to spot Africa’s Big Five – lion, leopard elephant buffalo rhino).
