How to reach Dodoma? Dodoma is located in Central Tanzania Mainland and that is why it was chosen to be the capital city of the country. It is easy to reach it from avery corner of the country.

Dodoma hosts a small airport with flights from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Lake Manyara, Ruaha, Tarangire, Zanzibar, Iringa, Mbeya and many other prominent cities. The airport is situated 1.5 km away from the heart of the city.

Dodoma has upgraded road and railway networks that lead city to the country’s commercial hub Dar es Salaam and many other important domestic destinations. Minibuses (dala dala) are the common way to get around Dodoma and there are taxis and rental cars also abundant.

How to reach Dodoma?: You have a choice of car (self drive), bus, air or train. With the completion of the new Standard Gauge Railway, it is expected that the journey from Dar to Dodoma (by SGR) will be less than 4 hours.

Dodoma lies to the north of Dar es Salaam (previous capital city) and is centrally located in Tanzania. From Dar to Dodoma by road is approximately 450 kilometers. By motorway standards, this distance should take a driver little less than 4 hours at 120 kph. However, due to strict speed controls, the journey will currently take you not less than 9 hours (daylight).

By air, domestic flights take a bit more than two hours depending, ofcourse, on the type of plane you are in (the Cessnas fly slower than Boeing jets). Buses are susceptible to stricter speed controls than private cars. A bus leaving Ubungo terminal in Dar at 06:00 hours is expected to arrive in Dodoma not less than 15:00 hours.
