Visit Mbudya island a marine reserve island located at the north of the country’s largest business city, Dar es Salaam and is one among the distinctive islands of the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve. The island lies close to Kunduchi fishing community and takes around 15-20-minutes motorboat ride crossing from the mainland. It is situated about 3 km offshore, within easy reach of the hotels on the North coast of Dar es Salaam.

The Island is characterized with sand beaches on the western and eastern sides. The trip to Mbudya starts on the beach, next to a stretch of tourist hotels on a hired boat. Once you get onto the island, you come to the realization that you have to pay for literally everything. You will pay for being on the island (it is a marine reserve) Tshs 2,000 ($0.89) for the locals and Tshs 22,500 ($10.06) for foreigners. The ferry to Mbudya Island departs from the Slipway pier in Dar es Salaam. The boat ride costs around 40,000 TZN ($17.40) and the journey takes around 45 minutes each way. The ferries depart twice in the morning (9:30 am and 11:30 am) and the last ferry returns to the Slipway at around 4:30 pm.
