Kilimanjaro International Airport is an international airport in northern Tanzania that serves the cities of Arusha and Moshi. The airport handled 802,731 passengers in 2014 and mainly serves regional flights as well as a few long-haul services due to its importance as a leisure destination.

On the day of the pickup: please be ready at least 15 minutes in advance. Our driver will take you to the Airport and help you carry your luggage. Keep in mind that the traffic isn’t always predictable. For arusha, try to leave for the airport at least 3,5 hours before the flight.
The drive will take a little more than 1 hour, but could be more depending on the traffic. It’s recommended to be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight departs.
As per your departure, we recommend you arrive at the airport two hours prior to your flight time. Also, it is ill-advised to arrive at the airport more than three hours beforehand or you will have to wait until the airline booth is open for your flight.Always keep your boarding pass and passport in hand. After security clearance, you’ll enter the common waiting area. There are six gates at Kilimanjaro Airport. If you want, you can see your plane as it arrives as the seating at the gate faces outdoors through large windows.

Best way to fly to Kilimanjaro from us, Europe and UK
For ALL visitors in US, Europe and the UK, the easiest thing to do is to fly from a major local airport hub near your location to Amsterdam (most major airports in US, Europe and the UK have flights to Amsterdam), and then catch the KLM Airlines to JRO connecting flight. Probably the best and most reliable option for Northern Hemisphere travellers is to fly direct to Kilimanjaro from Amsterdam using KLM Airline.
Departing Amsterdam each day at 10am, the flight arrives into Kilimanjaro International Airport around 20.30pm on the same day – plenty of time to get to your hotel and get settled.KLM is a great option for flights, you can find out more about flying to Tanzania with them here.

British Airways
British Airways fly direct from London, UK to Nairobi. This flight is fairly expensive though. You can then take a 6 hour bus from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro which will include purchasing a Kenyan visa. Connecting flights from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro are available but will come at a cost.
Ethiopian and Kenya Airways
Both Ethiopian Airways and Kenyan Airways offer indirect flights to Kilimanjaro Airport. Operating in most major airport hubs across Europe and the United States, both airlines fly direct to Nairobi (Kenya) or Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and then connect to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Qatar and Turkish
Turkish Airlines have opened up a direct flight to Kilimanjaro from Istanbul .The flights are generally cheaper than others but sadly the arrival time into Kilimanjaro Airport is 2am There is now a direct flight from Doha Airport to Kilimanjaro Airport. This is not a bad idea for UK residents living near Manchester .
Whilst there are no direct flights to Kilimanjaro from anywhere in Southern Africa, there are many airlines, including South African Airways, Emirates and Kenyan Airways that fly direct to Dar es Salaam, Addis Ababa or Nairobi from which you can take a connecting flight.
When you land at Kilimanjaro Airport
You will be instructed to get your hand luggage when your aircraft lands at Kilimanjaro International Airport and to go down some steps to the runway’s asphalt. While many flights land at the airport without stopping in Europe and North America, most airports in East Africa lack the infrastructure to allow passengers to depart through a ramp and land at the airport. You will depart the aircraft straight outside, a few hundred meters away from the airport building, using a stairway on wheels that will be linked to the exits. Ask the flight attendants if you need help bringing your hand luggage into the airport; they will be pleased to assist.

You may then pick up your checked luggage in the baggage claim area, which is just after immigration. Customs could ask to see your baggage once you have them all. Going to Serengeti from Kilimanjaro Airport
Most safaris to the Serengeti start from the town of Arusha. The best option to get there is to fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) which is situated about 46km/29mi from Arusha. It is also possible to fly into Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR), just outside of Dar es Salaam, and fly on to Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
There are regular flights from Arusha to several airstrips inside the park.
It’s also possible to drive; the trip is about 325km/202mi and will take about eight hours. It is a bumpy ride but it’s scenic and you’ll see some wildlife on the way.
As the trip takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation area, a popular option is to fly one way, and drive the other way taking in an overnight stop to visit the Ngorongoro Crater. Coming from the crater, the distance to the Seronera area in the Serengeti is about 140km/90mi, and the driving time is about three hours.
