Best way to fly to Kilimanjaro from us, Europe and UK

For ALL visitors in US, Europe and the UK, the easiest thing to do is to fly from a major local airport hub near your location to Amsterdam (most major airports in US, Europe and the UK have flights to Amsterdam), and then catch the KLM Airlines to JRO connecting flight. Probably the best and most reliable option for Northern Hemisphere travellers is to fly direct to Kilimanjaro from Amsterdam using KLM Airline.

Departing Amsterdam each day at 10am, the flight arrives into Kilimanjaro International Airport around 20.30pm on the same day – plenty of time to get to your hotel and get settled.KLM is a great option for flights, you can find out more about flying to Tanzania with them here.

The other positive point in flying from Amsterdam is that KLM are very professional and reliable when it comes to baggage and delay issues (plus Amsterdam is a super cool city!).

Ethiopian and Kenya Airways

Both Ethiopian Airways and Kenyan Airways offer indirect flights to Kilimanjaro Airport. Operating in most major airport hubs across Europe and the United States, both airlines fly direct to Nairobi (Kenya) or Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and then connect to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Qatar and Turkish

Turkish Airlines have opened up a direct flight to Kilimanjaro from Istanbul .The flights are generally cheaper than others but sadly the arrival time into Kilimanjaro Airport is 2am There is now a direct flight from Doha Airport to Kilimanjaro Airport. This is not a bad idea for UK residents living near Manchester .

Whilst there are no direct flights to Kilimanjaro from anywhere in Southern Africa, there are many airlines, including South African Airways, Emirates and Kenyan Airways that fly direct to Dar es Salaam, Addis Ababa or Nairobi from which you can take a connecting flight.

When you land at Kilimanjaro Airport

You will be instructed to get your hand luggage when your aircraft lands at Kilimanjaro International Airport and to go down some steps to the runway’s asphalt. While many flights land at the airport without stopping in Europe and North America, most airports in East Africa lack the infrastructure to allow passengers to depart through a ramp and land at the airport. You will depart the aircraft straight outside, a few hundred meters away from the airport building, using a stairway on wheels that will be linked to the exits. Ask the flight attendants if you need help bringing your hand luggage into the airport; they will be pleased to assist.

You will be taken to immigration together with the rest of the passengers on your aircraft, where multiple immigration agents are waiting to stamp your passport and provide a warm welcome to Tanzania Simply have the printed page available to show the officers if you have previously obtained your visa through the electronic service, and choose the visa line

You may then pick up your checked luggage in the baggage claim area, which is just after immigration. Customs could ask to see your baggage once you have them all. Customs officials frequently just check for contraband or attempt to transport goods in large quantities for resale. You;re done now! To reach the arrival area, which is outside, keep going through the exit doors.

Tanzanite Shop

There is the terminal building where you can purchase Tanzanite. The Tanzanite Experience is a company that sells Tanzanite. The company provides a variety of choices that you can select based on the color, clarity, cut or carat of the Tanzanite. A vast range of jewelry items are available from the company, including rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants, necklaces, bangles, watches, polished stones, fancy stones, and more

African Handcrafted Shop

A trip to Africa would be incomplete if you did not have the opportunity to purchase African handicrafts for your family and friends as part of your experience in Africa. In the International Departure Lounge, there are shops that sell these products. This place allows you to see most of the hand-carved pendants, African jewelers, and sculptures made of high-quality native African objects.

Book Shop

You have quite bit of time in here. Why not walk around the library and read a book or two? At Kilimanjaro International Airport, you have the opportunity to shop for literacy products at the book store. It’s a good idea to pick up a few magazines, read a few African books, while you enjoy the aroma of African coffee at a nearby coffee shop as you enjoy your leisurely day.
